About this award

The State of Hawaii Department of Transportation received a $1.27 million formula grant award from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to support alcohol-impaired driving countermeasures from October 2021 through September 2025. The funding supports the Minimum Penalties for Repeat Offenders for Driving While Intoxicated federal grant program. Under this program, states must enact and enforce repeat intoxicated driver laws establishing minimum specified penalties to avoid transfer of federal funds. The State of Hawaii will use the formula grant funding to deliver countermeasures that enforce conforming laws penalizing repeat intoxicated drivers and support efforts to curb alcohol-impaired driving.
