About this award

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) awarded Pennsylvania Department of Transportation $510,885 under the Bridge Formula Program (CFDA 20.263) on October 23, 2025, for the replacement and rehabilitation of State Route 447 over an unnamed tributary to Wallenpaupack Creek in Wayne County. The project includes superstructure replacement of the existing non-composite adjacent box beam bridge with a new single-span prestressed concrete structure featuring two 11-foot lanes and 4-foot shoulders, along with associated infrastructure improvements. Ancillary work encompasses roadway approach pavement reconstruction, guide rail replacement, erosion and sediment control measures, temporary traffic control, signing, pavement marking, and partial structure removal across a 388-foot (0.073-mile) work area in Drehler Township.

The Bridge Formula Program funds highway bridge replacement, rehabilitation, preservation, protection, and construction on public roads nationwide through formula-based apportionment to states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. This award, with an ultimate completion date of May 26, 2028, is a formula grant distributed directly to the state transportation agency without competitive merit review, reflecting the program's structure established under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act for addressing the nation's bridge infrastructure needs.
