About this award
The Federal Highway Administration awarded the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation $646,738 on October 31, 2025, under the Bridge Formula Program (CFDA 20.263) to replace State Route 0422 Bridge 4834 (Penn Avenue) over Cacoosing Creek in Sinking Spring Borough, Berks County, Pennsylvania.
The project replaces a 41-foot single-span reinforced concrete T-beam bridge with a new structure on the same alignment and grade. The work includes constructing sidewalks on both sides of the new bridge and on the eastern and western approaches to the structure. During construction, Park Avenue between Ruth Street and Penn Avenue will close to vehicular traffic, with vehicle detours of approximately 1.1 miles via Ruth Street, Wynnewood Avenue, and Ralph Avenue. Pedestrian traffic will be detoured to a temporary pedestrian bridge located adjacent to and south of the existing structure.
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, a division of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, is the recipient. Work is performed in Pennsylvania with an ultimate completion date of July 1, 2030. The Bridge Formula Program provides funding to states via formula apportionment for highway bridge replacement, rehabilitation, preservation, protection, and construction on public roads.
