About this award

The Department of Transportation Federal Aviation Administration New England Region awarded the City of Manchester, operating as Manchester-Boston Regional Airport, $8.819 million on June 15, 2026, under the Airport Improvement Program (CFDA 20.116) to reconstruct the engineered material arresting system safety area at Runway 6/24, specifically at the 24 end.

Phase 1 of the project consists of acquiring engineered material arresting system blocks to replace existing systems that have reached the end of their useful life. The runway safety area reconstruction supports the FAA's ongoing efforts with 14 CFR Part 139 certified airports to complete runway safety improvements; while most airports met the December 31, 2015 deadline for practicable improvements, Manchester-Boston Regional Airport continues to pursue further enhancements as feasible.

Work is performed at Manchester-Boston Regional Airport in Manchester, New Hampshire, with an ultimate completion date of June 14, 2030. The assistance type is a formula grant. Manchester-Boston Regional Airport, a division of the City of Manchester Planning & Community Development Department, acts as the prime recipient with no subcontracted work; all activities are delivered directly by the airport authority.
