About this award

The District of Columbia Government's Department of Employment Services received a $241,668 formula grant award from the Department of Labor's Veterans Employment and Training Service (VETS) under the Jobs for Veterans State Grants (JVSG) program (CFDA 17.801), effective October 1, 2025, through December 31, 2027. This award funds three core staffing positions within American Job Centers to deliver employment services to veterans: Disabled Veterans' Outreach Program (DVOP) specialists who provide individualized career services to veterans with significant employment barriers, particularly those who are economically or educationally disadvantaged; Local Veterans' Employment Representatives (LVER) who conduct employer outreach and advocacy to expand hiring opportunities for veterans, especially those with service-connected disabilities; and consolidated DVOP/LVER staff serving in a dual capacity.

The grant supports comprehensive career preparation and employment resource services for eligible veterans, including service-connected disabled veterans, other disabled veterans, economically or educationally disadvantaged veterans, homeless veterans, and those with other significant barriers to employment. As a formula grant administered directly by the state workforce agency, the District of Columbia does not subaward these funds to other entities. The three-year award period allows the recipient state agency flexibility in expending the annual allocation.

Description

Consolidated position staff serve in a dual role as dvop and lver. Jvsg-funded staff prepare america's veterans and transitioning service members for meaningful careers, provide them with employment resources and expertise, and promote their employment opportunities. Veterans and eligible persons with emphasis on service-connected special disabled veterans, other disabled veterans, economically or educationally disadvantaged veterans, homeless veterans and veterans with other significant barriers to employment.
