About this award
The Veterans Employment and Training Service (VETS) awarded the Veterans Commission of Texas a formula grant of $22.75 million under the Jobs for Veterans State Grants (JVSG) program (CFDA 17.801) for the period October 1, 2025 through December 31, 2027. This funding supports three core staffing positions within American Job Centers across Texas: Disabled Veterans' Outreach Program (DVOP) specialists who provide individualized career services to veterans with significant employment barriers, particularly those who are economically or educationally disadvantaged; Local Veterans' Employment Representatives (LVER) who conduct outreach to employers and advocacy efforts to increase hiring opportunities for veterans and disabled veterans; and consolidated DVOP/LVER staff serving in a dual capacity. The grant serves eligible populations including service-connected special disabled veterans, other disabled veterans, economically or educationally disadvantaged veterans, homeless veterans, and veterans with other significant barriers to employment.
The Veterans Commission of Texas administers these grant-funded activities directly through its state workforce agencies without subawards to other entities. JVSG-funded staff across Texas prepare veterans and transitioning service members for meaningful employment by delivering career services, employment resources, and expertise while promoting employment opportunities for this priority population. As a formula grant recipient, the state agency is responsible for maintaining cost accounting, timekeeping, and performance records in accordance with the grant agreement and applicable federal regulations.
