Description

Pccd is required under 71 P.S. 1190.23 to prepare and, at least every two years, update a comprehensive juvenile justice plan on behalf of the commonwealth based on an analysis of the commonwealths needs and problems, including juvenile delinquency prevention. The juvenile justice and delinquency prevention committee, pennsylvanias SAG, is responsible for developing this plan. Pennsylvania's identified priorities/goals: ensure compliance with the core requirements within the federal juvenile justice and delinquency prevention (jjdp) act; build upon our foundation for a comprehensive delinquency and violence prevention strategy by working with state partners, schools, and service providers to better address the needs of pennsylvanias youth and families; implement and maintain pennsylvanias highly regarded juvenile justice system enhancement strategy; address key legislative and policy matters of critical importance to the achievement of these goals; support the needs of juveniles between the ages of 10 and 17, focusing on system enhancement, evidence-based programs and practices, delinquency prevention and intervention, identifying/reducing racial and ethnic disparities (r/ED), and aftercare/reentry; support policies and programs that serve all system-involved adolescents regardless of race, ethnicity, gender or gender identification with services that address prevention, treatment, and reentry needs. Pennsylvanias formula grant funds support projects related to compliance monitoring (r/ED and secure holding procedures), prevention, diversion, system improvement, and aftercare. Pccd supports activities dedicated to monitoring compliance with the core protections of the jjdp act, supports programs for local r/ED assessment efforts to reduce racial and ethnic disparities, and prevent formal system involvement.
