About this award

The North Dakota Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (ND DOCR) received a $604,963 Title II Formula Grant from the Department of Justice's Office of Justice Programs Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP). The four-year grant will fund community-based alternatives to incarceration and institutionalization for at-risk and justice-involved youth through September 2026.

Specifically, the ND DOCR will support non-secure detention programs, crisis intervention, family reunification services, and tribal government holdover sites. Funding will also create youth development opportunities, particularly for minority youth overrepresented in the juvenile justice system. Programs will include mentoring, leadership development, skill-building, and trust-building between youth/families and communities. A portion of the grant will support research and evaluation of funded initiatives. Additionally, $50,000 was provided to sub-grantee Mountain-Plains Youth Services Coalition (doing business as Youthworks) to address delinquency and improve the juvenile justice system.
