Description

The florida department of law enforcement (FDLE) will allocate funds for the violent gang and gun crime reduction program, also known as project safe neighborhoods (PSN) to support the united states attorney's office (USAO) for the northern district of florida (NDFL). Funds will be used to reduce violent crime including felonious firearm crimes, criminal gang violence and preventing future criminal activities within the NDFL hotspots. PSN task forces in tallahassee (leon county), pensacola (escambia county), and gainesville (alachua county) are available to work with subgrant recipients in the traditional areas of enforcement, education, and outreach. The NDFL PSN strategy will address challenges to reduce the rate of violent crime in targeted hot spots throughout the district by increasing community engagement with law enforcement and dismantling street gangs and quasi-gang organizations engaged in violent crimes in the areas. Reducing the number of juveniles stealing guns during automobile burglaries would also help accomplish this goal by reducing the number of crime guns available in those communities. At least thirty percent (30) percent of the funding will be used for collaborative, coordinated law enforcement efforts focused on criminal and/or transnational organizations as mandated by the FY2023 federal solicitation.
