Description

The state's nonpoint source implementation projects include a variety of structural and non-structural best management practices (BMPS), watershed planning, monitoring, technology demonstrations, and a variety of educational outreach programs. Activities:the state will use a portion of the funds for internal activities that support their water quality nonpoint source pollution control program. These activities include: nonpoint source policy and planning coordination; financial and data administration; nonpoint source education and outreach; total maximum daily load (TMDL) development and implementation; nonpoint source technical assistance to ensure compliance; and TMDL and best management practices effectiveness monitoring. The state will use the remaining portion of their funds to award grants and contracts to external local partners for projects that will address nonpoint pollution. Subrecipient:multiple subawards will go towards direct implementation of on-the-ground projects that are designed to reduce nonpoint sources of pollution through implementation of agricultural best management practices that are in accordance with the state's nonpoint source management plan. Outcomes:the anticipated deliverables/activities include creation of internally hosted webmaps for partners; conducting site visits; providing technical assistance to applicants; hosting public meetings; developing watershed plans including total maximum daily loads; conducting monitoring; conducting education and outreach; and coordinating with partners. The expected environmental outcomes include increased public engagement; improved habit for aquatic species; and improved water quality due to reductions in sediment, nitrogen, phosphorous and thermal loading to waterbodies throughout the state of washington. The intended beneficiaries include all state residents and occupants who benefit from cleaner water and healthier streams, both permanent and temporarily.
