About this award

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 4 awarded $1.22 million to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FLDEP) under the Sewer Overflow and Stormwater Reuse Municipal Grant Program (CFDA 66.447) effective July 1, 2025, with a completion date of June 30, 2029. FLDEP serves as the pass-through entity, distributing these formula grant funds as subawards to eligible Florida municipalities for planning, design, and construction of water quality improvement projects. The program specifically targets infrastructure needs related to combined sewer overflows (CSOs), sanitary sewer overflows (SSOs), and stormwater management systems authorized under the America's Water Infrastructure Act of 2018 and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act amendments to the Clean Water Act.

FLDEP will prioritize subawards to disadvantaged municipal entities—determined by community affordability scores and implementation of long-term control plans for CSOs or SSOs. The anticipated deliverables include engineering plans, technical design documents, integrated stormwater management master plans, and constructed overflow or stormwater infrastructure systems. By channeling federal funding through the state agency to local municipalities, this award addresses critical water quality protection needs while directing resources toward economically disadvantaged communities requiring infrastructure improvement.
