DESCRIPTION:THIS AWARD WILL ALLOW THE PASSAMAQUODDY TRIBE AT INDIAN TOWNSHIP BETTER UNDERSTAND AIR POLLUTANTS, INFORM TRIBAL LEADERSHIP TO MAKE DECISIONS AROUND AIR QUALITY, AND ULTIMATELY PROTECT THE HEALTH AND WELFARE OF TRIBAL CITIZENS. THE PROJECT CENTERS AROUND THE COLLECTION OF ACID RAIN DATA WHICH IS THEN SUBMITTED TO THE NATIONAL ATMOSPHERIC DEPOSITION PROGRAM. ACTIVITIES:PRIMARY ACTIVITIES INCLUDE ESTABLISHING OF A NEW ANNUAL CONTRACT WITH THE NATIONAL ATMOSPHERIC DEPOSITION PROGRAM; WEEKLY COLLECTION, PROCESSING, AND DATA MANAGEMENT OF SAMPLES FROM THE ACID RAIN MONITOR AND RAIN GAUGE; MAINTENANCE OF MONITORING EQUIPMENT; COMMUNITY EDUCATION AT THE TRIBAL HEALTH FAIR, INDIAN DAY, AND OTHER EVENTS; AND FURTHER OUTREACH AND EDUCATION TO BOLSTER THE TRIBE'S AWARENESS OF ACID RAIN DEPOSITION AND REDUCTION MEASURES OF THE ECOLOGICAL IMPACT TO ACID RAIN. SUBRECIPIENT:NO SUBAWARDS ARE INCLUDED IN THIS ASSISTANCE AGREEMENT.OUTCOMES:DELIVERABLES WILL CONSIST OF RENEWED NATIONAL ATMOSPHERIC DEPOSITION PROGRAM CONTRACT; WEEKLY FIELD OBSERVER REPORTS RELATED TO ACID RAIN AND RAIN GAUGE MONITORING; WEEKLY PROCESSING OF ACID RAIN SAMPLES; MAINTAINED EQUIPMENT; AND INCREASED COMMUNITY AWARENESS OF THE TRIBE'S ACID RAIN DEPOSITION AND PASSIVE MERCURY PROGRAM. OUTCOMES WILL CONSIST OF GREATER AWARENESS BY THE ENVIRONMENTAL DEPARTMENT, COMMUNITY MEMBERS AND TRIBAL LEADERSHIP IN RELATION TO PUBLIC HEALTH AND ECOLOGICAL RISK OF ACID RAIN DEPOSITION AND MERCURY EXPOSURE. THE INTENDED BENEFICIARIES INCLUDE ALL CITIZENS AND RESIDENTS OF THE PASSAMAQUODDY TRIBE AT INDIAN TOWNSHIP.
