Description
This agreement provides support to the state of kansas to implement its nonpoint source management program, focusing on watersheds with water quality impairments caused by polluted run-off from nonpoint sources. Nonpoint source implementation projects include a variety of structural and non-structural best management practices (bmps), watershed planning, monitoring, technology demonstrations, and a variety of education/outreach programs.activities:this grant agreement will help provide technical assistance, financial assistance, education, training, technology transfer, demonstration projects, and water quality monitoring to implement and assess the success of specific nonpoint source pollution prevention projects. This grant provides funding to the kansas department of health and environment (kdhe) to carry out its nonpoint source management plan. Kdhe will protect, maintain, and improve the water quality of waterbodies throughout their state by implementing best management practices that will reduce nonpoint source water pollution and by educating resource managers, public officials, community leaders and private citizens about the effects of human activities on water quality and what their communities can do to prevent and reduce nonpoint source pollution. Many of the projects kdhe implements to reduce nonpoint source pollution will involve the use of grant subrecipients. The environmental benefits of this program include preventing degradation of unimpaired waterbodies and reducing the number of impaired waterbodies in the state and improving water quality in states/communities downstream.subrecipient:the activities to be implemented through subawards include activities that aid in accomplishing the objectives of the kansas nonpoint source (NPS) management plan. These activities will focus on specific tmdls and stream segments to delist through a strategic planning process. These strategies included innovative best management practices (bmps), information/education, partnerships, development of water quality protection plans, and implementation of water quality bmps for activities and projects not addressed through other programs that could adversely affect water quality.outcomes:kdhe will provide the following deliverables: final reports based on project implementation plans, program annual reports, grant annual performance reports, load reduction data, nonpoint source management plans, project implementation plans, and watershed based plans. The environmental benefits of this program include preventing degradation of unimpaired waterbodies and reducing the number of impaired waterbodies in the state and improving water quality in states/communities downstream.
