About this award
The Environmental Protection Agency Region 3 awarded the District of Columbia Department of Energy and Environment a $1,985,000 Formula Grant under the Nonpoint Source Implementation Grants program (CFDA #66.460) to implement the jurisdiction's nonpoint source pollution management program from October 1, 2021 through September 30, 2026.
The grant funds three main initiatives. First, $1,181,000 will support nonpoint source implementation projects conducted by the grantee and subrecipients, including structural and nonstructural best management practices, watershed planning, monitoring, and education/outreach. Second, a subaward of $10,000 will support the Anacostia Green Boat Program run by a subrecipient, offering free kayaking and community science water quality monitoring on the Anacostia River. Third, subawards totaling $794,000 will fund the DC Watershed LID Retrofit Program and support two USGS stream gauge stations through an interagency agreement, to meet water quality standards through stormwater retrofits and monitoring. The projects are expected to reduce pollutant loads in impaired watersheds and ultimately restore waterbodies to attain water quality standards, benefiting all District residents.
