About this award
The Department of Military Affairs of South Dakota received a $1.24 million cooperative agreement award from the U.S. Department of Defense Washington Headquarters Service on October 1, 2021 to support the SD Air National Guard Youth STARBASE 4002 program through September 30, 2022. The funding supports the National Guard ChalleNGe Program (CFDA 12.404), which provides at-risk youth with supervised work experience and military-based training through the National Guard. Specifically, the cooperative agreement delivers the STARBASE 4002 program, which uses space exploration and aviation themes to improve math, science and technology skills for students in grades K-12, with a focus on those from disadvantaged backgrounds. The program is administered by the South Dakota National Guard to provide experiential learning opportunities for youth across the state.
