About this award
The Department of the Army Materiel Command Research Development and Engineering Command awarded $500,000 under the Basic Scientific Research program (CFDA 12.431) to Georgia Tech Research Corporation for a one-year Cooperative Agreement ending July 7, 2023. The award will support the development and deployment of a Bayesian machine learning framework to accelerate modeling of multiscale physics controlling material responses in extreme environments.
Georgia Tech will lead the effort and collaborate with sub-awardees Johns Hopkins University and Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station. Johns Hopkins University will develop and validate Bayesian machine learning codebase extensions to allow rigorous treatment of uncertainty propagation through chained surrogate models across multiple material length and time scales. Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station personnel will work on developing the Bayesian machine learning codebase, physics-based modeling of ballistic performance, and generalized Bayesian machine learning frameworks incorporating known physical laws as constraints. The project aims to advance modeling of material behavior under extreme conditions to support Army programs.
