The Department of State Bureau of International Narcotics Law Enforcement awarded a $1,455,419 Cooperative Agreement to the University of Massachusetts Office of Research Administration to reduce human trafficking in Tunis, Tunisia from October 1, 2021 through September 30, 2026. The award is part of the International Programs to Combat Human Trafficking program (CFDA 19.019), which aims to prevent trafficking, protect victims, and prosecute traffickers. Under the award, the University of Massachusetts will partner with Asap- Avocats in Tunisia to build the capacity of justice sector professionals through training, networking, and information sharing activities. Specifically, Asap- Avocats will assist with project design and implementation, data collection and analysis, and the production of study findings and final reports to disseminate results. The sub-awardee will also engage in corrective actions as needed. The Cooperative Agreement thus supports efforts to strengthen Tunisia's response to human trafficking through collaborative work between U.S. and Tunisian organizations.
