Description

Activities
Continuing the effort to remediate the chartiers creek watershed by continuing the stream sealing efforts already completed, this project includes additional stream sealing for the stream beds flowing into fishing run, through the historically mined depression upstream and to the west of the completed stream sealing along fishing run. The fishing run stream sealing project will consist of minor, temporary construction to create an improved stream bed. To complete the stream sealing project, the substrate will be removed from the stream bottom and stockpiled, an impermeable membrane layer will be added which could include a combination of geosynthetic liner and clay, and then the substrate will be replaced.expected deliverables or outcomes: for years IT has always been the intent of the local community to clean up the chartiers creek watershed. The implementation of this stream sealing would further aid in the watershed cleanup. This project will demonstrate the progression of the overall goal, which is the restoration of the chartiers creek watershed.
Intended beneficiaries
The full impact of the restoration work completed thus far is powerful. The water that once ran orange, laden with iron and other metals, are flowing strong and clear down the same stream bed. Such a dramatic change indicates the success of the project, and we seek to continue this work on the contributing streams along fishing run.subrecipient activities (if known or specified at time of award): n/a
