The Santa Clara Valley Water District (Valley Water) received a $1,524,996 Cooperative Agreement award from the U.S. Department of the Interior's Bureau of Reclamation under the Water Recycling and Desalination Construction Programs (CFDA 15.504). The funding will support a feasibility study to assess the viability of constructing a new Advanced Water Purification Facility (AWPF) in San Jose for potable water reuse through groundwater recharge, raw water augmentation, and/or treated water augmentation. The study aims to help Valley Water advance planning and preliminary design activities for this potential $500 million+ project, which would contribute towards the district's goal of meeting at least 10% of total county water demands through drought-resilient recycled and purified water by 2040. The 24-month feasibility study is anticipated to conclude by October 2025.
