THIS PROGRAM UTILIZES QUALIFIED NON-PROFIT YOUTH- AND VETERAN-SERVING ORGANIZATIONS TO CARRY OUT APPROPRIATE NATURAL AND CULTURAL RESOURCE CONSERVATION, EDUCATION, VOLUNTEER SERVICE AND EDUCATION PROJECTS ON DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR LANDS THROUGH AUTHORIZED NATIONAL PARK SERVICE PROGRAMS. THIS PROJECT WILL ENGAGE YOUTH FROM THE LOCAL VOCATIONAL HIGH SCHOOLS CO-OP PROGRAM IN AN IMMERSIVE, SKILLS-FOCUSED TRAINING EXPERIENCE AT LOWELL NATIONAL HISTORICAL PARK. STUDENTS WILL WORK CLOSELY WITH NPS MAINTENANCE CRAFTSPEOPLE OR PARK ARCHITECTS ON SPECIFIC RESOURCE MANAGEMENT PROJECTS, GAINING HANDS-ON EXPERIENCE IN THEIR CHOSEN TRADES. THEY WILL WORK ON PROJECTS INVOLVING HISTORIC BUILDINGS AND INFRASTRUCTURE, ENHANCING THE TRADE SKILLS THEY HAVE BEEN CONCENTRATING ON THROUGH THEIR LOCAL VOCATIONAL PROGRAMS. THESE PROJECTS ARE COMPLEX AND REQUIRE TRAINING IN SPECIALIZED TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT. EACH YOUTH WILL BE PAIRED WITH AN NPS STAFF MEMBER IN THEIR CHOSEN TRADE, RECEIVING MENTOR-SHIP AND FIRSTHAND EXPERIENCE IN APPLYING THEIR SKILLS TO REAL-WORLD CHALLENGES. THEY WILL TACKLE UNIQUE PROBLEMS RELATED TO MAINTAINING HISTORIC INFRASTRUCTURE, ALL WHILE ADHERING TO PRESERVATION GUIDELINES. BENEFICIARIES INCLUDE PRIVATE NON-PROFIT INSTITUTIONS AND ORGANIZATIONS PUBLIC AND PRIVATE NON-PROFIT ACADEMIC INSTITUTIONS STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT AGENCIES QUASI-PUBLIC NON-PROFIT INSTITUTIONS AND ORGANIZATIONS THAT SUPPORT YOUTH AND YOUNG ADULT CAREER TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT, AND EDUCATION IN THE AREAS OF NATURAL AND OR CULTURAL RESOURCE CONSERVATION AND MANAGEMENT. INDIVIDUALS FAMILIES STUDENTS AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC WILL RECEIVE A BENEFIT FROM THE DEVELOPMENT AND EXECUTION OF THESE PROGRAMS AND PROJECTS.
