15.963: southwest border resource protection programsam.GOV link: click here for the SAM.GOV assistance listingthis program provides financial assistance to educational institutions, nonprofit organizations, tribes, and local and state agencies to improve resource stewardship, achieve international cooperation, provide meaningful interpretation and conduct scientific research, which will lead to increased appreciation and understanding of our shared natural and cultural heritage along our international border with mexico. Building on previous research, recipients will (1) quantify the hydrology of 40 tinajas (a depression in the rock that holds water) in four protected areas along the US-mexico border, (2) assess wildlife visitation and use of these tinajas, (3) analyze synchronicity in the wetting and drying cycles of tinajas across the region, and (4) combine these sources of information to predict how animals may move through the landscape in search of water when tinajas dry. Beneficiaries include profit organizations, public nonprofit institutions organizations, private nonprofit institutions organizations, non-federal government entities, industry and public decision makers, research scientists, engineers, and the general public.
