About this award

This $380,000 Cooperative Agreement, awarded by the National Park Service (NPS) through its Natural Resource Stewardship program (CFDA 15.944), supports a collaborative project between Yosemite National Park, Yosemite Conservancy, and Mariposa County Resource Conservation District. The project aims to enhance the conservation and protection of two key natural resources in Yosemite National Park: giant sequoias and Ackerson Meadow. Specifically, the funding will complete urgent and critical fuels reduction work to prepare the Merced Grove for an interagency prescribed fire. This work reduces wildfire threat to the giant sequoias, federally listed wildlife habitat, critical telecommunication infrastructure, and the park's helibase, while also decreasing risks to firefighter safety and increasing the landscape's resilience to climate change. The project ensures visitors can continue to experience the sequoias now and in the future. This Bi-Partisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) funded Cooperative Agreement runs from September 2024 through December 2025.
