Description

Abstract
Health and hospital corporation of marion county doing business as marion county public health department (mcphd) is applying to the centers for disease control and prevention (CDC) childhood lead poisoning prevention and surveillance of blood lead levels in children program. Mcphd lead poisoning prevention program (lppp), a component of the healthy homes, environmental consumer management & senior care department, will use funds to increase efforts to identify and connect lead poisoned children to recommended services and increase surveillance efforts while working closely with partnering agencies to ensure a comprehensive system of referral, case management, follow-up care, and evaluation are in place to serve effected children and families. Lppp activities will result in:(1)increased numbers of children less than six years old tested for blood lead: lppp will raise awareness through education and outreach, work with primary care providers (PCP) to ensure eligible and at-risk children receive blood lead tests, and provide blood lead testing at childcare facilities, outreach events, and during home visits. (2)improved data usage that leads to a greater identification of geographic areas and popula-tions at high risk for lead exposure: lppp will conduct regular data reviews, identifying ?hot spots? And increasing targeted outreach to those areas. (3)increased ability to target interventions to high-risk populations: regular review of data will identify communities that need education, outreach, and blood lead testing.(4)increased identification of children exposed to lead and links to recommended services: education, targeted outreach, increased blood lead testing, and working directly with pcps to identify children exposed to lead and link them to necessary services. (5)coordinated efforts for lead inspections and screenings: develop a countywide advisory committee and countywide catalog of wraparound service providers, in-office testing sites, and points of care screening.
