Description
Surveillance and response to avian and pandemic influenza by national health authorities outside the united states - the cote d'ivoire influenza sentinel surveillance network was established in 2006 with technical and financial support from CDC atlanta. This network has confirmed the circulation of influenza a and b viruses and has played an important role in detecting outbreaks of this disease. Since 2020, the influenza surveillance system has been playing a major role in the covid-19 control in terms of sars-COV-2 detection and response activities. In order to maintain the capacity of the current surveillance system and improve its performance, the CDC technical and financial support for the implementation of this project will be of considerable help. This project aims to improve the surveillance system for influenza and other respiratory diseases for early detection of epidemics and rapid response under the one-health approach. Each component of the project has been considered with expected short- and long-term outcomes.for component 1 (influenza core activities) expected short- and long-term outcomes include: assessing the influenza surveillance system, establishing coordination with the ministry of agriculture, establishing a national influenza surveillance system integrating epidemiological and laboratory data, and sharing circulating virus strains with who and CDC collaborating centers.with respect to component 2 (non-influenza viral and bacterial respiratory and vaccine-preventable pathogen), expected short- and long-term outcomes include assessing the non-influenza respiratory disease surveillance system, improved capacity of the early warning system through integrated and event-based surveillance, strengthened mechanisms for transport of non-influenza viral biological samples, improved capacity for detection and characterization of other respiratory viruses, and availability of the viral respiratory disease pandemic preparedness and response plan.with regard to component 3 (rapid response to infectious disease outbreaks or other public health EME rgencies), main expected short- and long-term results include capacity building for the public health emergency operations center, rapid control of epidemics, and capacity building for the country in early warning, mitigation and management of national and international health risks. In the implementation of this project, the national institute of public hygiene will mainly collaborate with pasteur institute of cote d'ivoire, LA nouvelle pharmacie DE LA sante publique, the laboratory of the ministry of agriculture, the directorate of health information and the one health platform.
