About this award

The Department of Agriculture National Resources Conservation Service awarded a $100,000 Cooperative Agreement to The Why Initiative Inc. under the Farm and Ranch Lands Protection Program (CFDA 10.913) to establish a community growth and development initiative for sustainable agricultural communities, especially for underserved rural areas in Mississippi. The initiative will work with Mississippi communities from August 9, 2021 to September 14, 2022 to limit the conversion of important farmland and ranchland to non-agricultural uses by purchasing conservation easements and supporting historical and archaeological resources. As part of the Farm and Ranch Lands Protection Program, this Cooperative Agreement will help preserve Mississippi's agricultural lands and communities through local partnerships and conservation easements.
