Description
The RESERVE is administered by the new york state department of environmental conservation (NYSDEC), which is submitting this application for FY24 funds to support operations, research and monitoring, education, training, and stewardship activities from july 1, 2024 through december 31, 2025. NYSDEC is requesting $827,218 which will be matched by $354,522 from state funds in the form of annual salary for the RESERVE manager and contractual funds for the RESERVE program coordinator. During FY24, the RESERVE will focus on continued program implementation of research and monitoring, estuary training, education and basic operations of the RESERVE. To achieve the implementation, federal funds will be used to support the education coordinator, science educator, education program specialist, research coordinator, habitat researcher, swmp technician, research intern, restoration assistant and estuary training program coordinator staff positions. In addition, federal funds will be used to acquire necessary supplies and administrative services (i.e., postage, shipping); and participate in professional development and training. Federal funds provided for support of the margaret a. Davidson fellowship ($6,949) will also be spent in this NYSDEC award to convene a review panel to select the final candidate out of four proposals and begin the mentorship with the selected fellow in 2024. The RESERVE swmp and research program is supported by both this NYSDEC award and a hudson river valley greenway award. This NYSDEC award provides contract support for the research staff (research coordinator, habitat researcher, swmp technician and research intern) and their oversight and coordination of the program, while the greenway award provides support for on-the ground implementation of the research and monitoring program including, but not limited to, water quality analysis, acquisition of equipment and supplies, and management of research internships. Therefore, the RESERVE is also requesting FY24 funds through the separate award the hudson river valley greenway: $53,749 in federal operations funds with $23,036 in matching state funds.
