About this award

The Southwest Wetlands Interpretive Association (SWIA), a non-profit organization, received a $713,173 Cooperative Agreement award from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) under the Coastal Zone Management Estuarine Research Reserves program (CFDA 11.420) to support the Tijuana River National Estuarine Research Reserve's (TRNERR) research, monitoring, education, and coastal stewardship programs. As the fiscal agent and partner, SWIA will carry out tasks to identify and prioritize coastal management issues that can be addressed by the TRNERR and the National Estuarine Research Reserve System. The award, which runs from July 1, 2023 to December 31, 2024, enables SWIA to collaborate with the California Department of Parks and Recreation, the TRNERR's administrative lead agency, to integrate project deliverables and ensure seamless reserve operations. SWIA has previously received over $5 million in NOAA grant awards to support the TRNERR's mission and the National Estuarine Research Reserve System.
