Description
UMCES scientists will conduct research and evaluation of oyster related restoration projects including: 1) transport and fate of oyster larvae from sanctuaries and public bars; and 2) the impacts of oyster restoration on key chesapeake BAY species; and 3) evaluating the best locations for oyster restoration and aquaculture that maximizes ecosystems services. These research results can be applied within the chesapeake BAY, particularly to state and federally funded restoration sites such as sanctuaries and infrastructure associated with poplar and mid-BAY islands thus enhancing the beneficial use of dredge material. Scientific integration and communication sessions will be help annually as well as an oyster symposium in year 3 of this project.
