About this award
The Grand Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve (GBNERR) in Mississippi will receive $2.23 million under a cooperative agreement award from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to support operations, research, monitoring, education, training, and stewardship activities from July 2022 through December 2023. Administered by the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources, the GBNERR will use the funding to conduct habitat protection, water quality monitoring, and environmental change research consistent with the National Estuarine Research Reserve System's strategic plan. $780,500 in federal funds will be matched by $334,500 in state funding to support all project costs except indirect costs. The award is part of the Coastal Zone Management Estuarine Research Reserves program, which provides assistance to develop, operate, and construct facilities for national estuarine reserves that serve as natural field laboratories for coastal and estuarine research and education.
Description
The reserve is administrated by the mississippi department of marine resources (MDMR) who is submitting this application for fiscal year (FY) 2021 funds to support operations, research and monitoring, education, training, and stewardship activities from july 1, 2022 through december 31, 2023. The MDMR is requesting $780,500 in federal funds, which will be matched by $334,500 in state funds from the mississippi tidelands trust fund in the form of 30% support to all project costs (except indirect). The proposal indirect rate for this fiscal year is 27.83%, which is the MDMR's negotiated indirect cost rate.
