Description
This project is about helping the bureau of land management BLM reimagine the role its riverscapes can play as a cornerstone to increasing climate resilience and protecting biodiversity on america s public lands with the current administration robustly addressing the intertwined climate and nature crises, BLM has a ripe opportunity to dramatically increase the health of landscapes IT is entrusted to steward by viewing its riverscapes as a critical piece of natural infrastructure fundamental to a coherent climate adaptation and resilience agenda restoring degraded stream channels into healthy, functioning riverscapes will help these landscapes more reliably yield benefits in water quantity, water quality, habitat for terrestrial and aquatic species, recreation, and carbon sequestration, while simultaneously increasing resilience to the increasing frequency and severity of droughts, floods and fires to accomplish this, we are proposing this project to support BLM in establishing a healthy riverscape initiative that prioritizes investing in low tech, process based restoration to improve the condition of and expand riverscape habitat on BLM managed lands this project focuses on the i education and training, the II development of geospatial tools and standards i e decision support , and the III scientific studies to build the confidence and expand the capacity of BLM and its partners to realize the vision of healthier riverscapes
