The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) awarded a $2,716,744 Cooperative Agreement (Award No. F25AC00562) on January 17, 2025 to the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) under the FWS Fish and Aquatic Conservation - Aquatic Invasive Species (CFDA 15.608) grant program. The funding will support the development of two permanent watercraft inspection stations to prevent new introductions of aquatic invasive species to the Lake Tahoe region. One station will be located near the east shore of Lake Tahoe in Nevada, and the other near the south shore in California. This will replace the current temporary inspection sites, which require annual setup and breakdown as well as obtaining seasonal permits and lease payments. The permanent stations are expected to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the aquatic invasive species prevention program that has been in place at Lake Tahoe since 2008.
