About this award

The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) received a $14,450,351 cooperative agreement from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) to manage the Chesapeake Watershed Investments for Landscape Defense (WILD) program under the FWS's Adaptive Science federal grant program (CFDA 15.670). The goal of the WILD program is to conserve, steward, and enhance fish and wildlife habitats and related conservation values in the Chesapeake Bay, build capacity of regional partners to address shared restoration and conservation priorities, and enhance coordination among federal, state, local, and regional entities working towards shared goals for sustaining natural resources and human communities throughout the watershed. The funding will support a competitive grant program over 5 years starting July 1, 2024.

The cooperative agreement involves NFWF assisting FWS in implementing year three of the WILD program. Through sub-awards to organizations like the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, the project will engage in activities such as permanently protecting habitat, restoring fish and wildlife access, improving water quality, removing invasive species, and enhancing public engagement and environmental education across the Chesapeake Bay watershed.
