Description
This proposal seeks to develop opportunities to support US fish and wildlife service, as well as other federal agencies, through individual placements of GBI research associates serving in or to support seed collection work over the next three years. The US fish wildlife service, the US forest service, and the bureau of land management are working together to develop seed mixes for recovering the coastal meadow ecosystem in the pacific northwest. Over the next three years the agencies will contribute the infrastructure, equipment, and some staff time needed to work with one north one south coast seed collection lead. Housing will be provided in the oregon coast national wildlife refuge complexs nestucca BAY NWR bandon NWR bunkhouses. In addition to agency staff joining the collectors when able, our three seed partnerships along the coast will also be participating as they are able (the understory initiative, the institute for applied ecology, the tillamook estuary partnership). The goal over the next three years is to collect 25 and 35 species in quantities large enough to be farmed into suitable quantities for hundreds of acres of restoration per year at first, with even loftier goals in the future.
