Cooperative Agreement F23AC00711
- This Project Grant award from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service under the National Fish Habitat Partnership (CFDA 15.686) program aims to restore aquatic habitat and connectivity within the War Eagle Creek watershed in Arkansas. The $200,000 award will fund four stream barrier removals, reconnect 493 miles of waterway, restore over 3,000 linear feet of streambanks, create wetlands and riparian zones, and improve habitat for 27 species of greatest conservation need, including the federally...
- The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) awarded a $300,000 Cooperative Agreement grant under the Partners for Fish and Wildlife program (CFDA 15.631) to the Beaver Watershed Alliance, a non-profit organization, to restore aquatic habitat and populations in the War Eagle Creek watershed in Arkansas. The project aims to remove dams and low water crossings, stabilize streambanks, install in-stream structures, create wetlands, and establish public access points. This will benefit drinking water...
- The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has awarded a $210,000 Project Grant under the Endangered Species Recovery Implementation program (CFDA 15.657) to the Wildlife Resources Agency, Tennessee. The funding will support efforts to recover populations of endangered and threatened mussel species in the Duck River through translocation of adult mussels, stocking of lab-propagated mussels, and reconstruction of a mussel propagation facility at Lillards Mill. This comprehensive project will transform...
- The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) awarded a $2,250,000 Project Grant under the National Fish Passage Program (CFDA 15.685) to the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission (AGFC) to mitigate five low water crossings in the Robinson Creek watershed. The project aims to restore Robinson Creek as a free-flowing stream for approximately 150 miles by removing or replacing the crossings with box culverts or span bridges. This will improve sediment transport, water quality, and aquatic habitat...
- The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (Agfc) received a $163,998 project grant award from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service under the Cooperative Endangered Species Conservation Fund program (CFDA 15.615) to support two freshwater mussel conservation projects in Arkansas. The funding will support Agfc's work to propagate and release juvenile mussels of three federally listed freshwater mussel species - the threatened Arkansas fatmucket, endangered Ouachita rock pocketbook, and endangered winged...
- The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, under the Partners for Fish and Wildlife program (CFDA 15.631), awarded a $100,000 Cooperative Agreement to enhance riparian and instream habitat along one mile of the Wood River in Oregon. The project aims to add approximately 50 large woody debris structures to the river to increase habitat complexity and benefit species like bull trout, Lost River and shortnose suckers, and redband trout. Additional benefits are expected for riparian-dependent birds,...
- The Arkansas Wildlife Federation will receive $302,000 through a Cooperative Agreement awarded by the U.S. Department of the Interior Fish and Wildlife Service Region 4 under the Partners for Fish and Wildlife program (CFDA 15.631). The funding will support efforts to restore, enhance and protect riparian, in-stream, springs and spring-run aquatic habitats on private lands in Arkansas and Louisiana. This will be accomplished through installing livestock exclusion fencing, conducting site...
- This $185,724.14 Project Grant award from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service under the Cooperative Endangered Species Conservation Fund (CFDA 15.615) program supports several conservation objectives in Arkansas: Assessing the status and distribution of the Rocky Shiner fish species through occupancy sampling and habitat/diet analysis to inform the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's Species Status Assessment. Improving habitat quality and stability for four federally listed mussel species along the...
- This $162,500 Project Grant from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service under the Endangered Species Recovery Implementation program (CFDA 15.657) will support recovery activities for 6 federally listed rare freshwater mussel species found in the Tennessee River Basin. The Wildlife Resources Agency of Tennessee (TWRA) and the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) will collaborate on propagation, restoration, and reintroduction efforts for these priority mussel species,...
- The Department of the Interior Fish and Wildlife Service Region 8 awarded a $124,345 cooperative agreement to the Klamath Watershed Partnership under the Partners for Fish and Wildlife program (CFDA 15.631) to install low-tech process-based restoration structures in the North Fork Sprague River from August 1, 2022 to July 31, 2027. The Klamath Watershed Partnership and Service will work together to install beaver dam analogs and post-assisted log structures to improve water quality for...
AT RISK AND LISTED AQUATIC SPECIES, ESPECIALLY FRESHWATER MUSSELS, SUCH AS RABBITSFOOT (T), PURPLE LILLIPUT (ARS), AND WESTERN FANSHELL (ARS) FISH, SUCH AS OZARK SHINER (ARS), AND LONGNOSE DARTER (ARS) AND AMPHIBIANS, SUCH AS OKLAHOMA SALAMANDER (ARS), REQUIRES HIGH QUALITY FLOWING WATER FREE OF EXCESSIVE SEDIMENT, AND NUTRIENTS. THIS RESTORATION FOR RECOVERY STRATEGY (RRS) FOCUSES EFFORTS WITHIN THE BEAVER LAKE PRIORITY WATERSHED, WORKING WITH PARTNERS BEAVER WATERSHED ALLIANCE (BWA), ARKANSAS GAME AND FISH COMMISSION (AGFC), PARTNERS FOR FISH AND WILDLIFE, PRIVATE LANDOWNERS AND OTHERS TO REDUCE OR ELIMINATE THREATS TO THREATENED AND ENDANGERED SPECIES AND IMPROVE INSTREAM, RIPARIAN, AND ASSOCIATED HABITATS IN THE WAR EAGLE CREEK SUB WATERSHEDS WHICH CONTAIN ALL PRIORITY SPECIES LISTED ABOVE. WAR EAGLE CREEK CONTAINS A WIDE DIVERSITY OF AQUATIC SPECIES (INCLUDING FEDERALLY LISTED AND AT RISK) AND WAR EAGLE WATERSHED IS THE LARGEST WATERSHED FEEDING INTO BEAVER LAKE, A REGIONAL SOURCE WATER DRINKING SUPPLY FOR OVER FIVE HUNDRED AND FIFTY THOUSAND ARKANSAS RESIDENTS (1 IN 5 ARKANSANS). STRATEGY COMPONENTS WILL INCLUDE ASSESSMENT, DESIGN DEVELOPMENT, REMOVAL OF A DERELICT DAM AND TWO DEGRADED LOW WATER CROSSINGS TO ALLOW FOR AQUATIC SPECIES PASSAGE, AND RECONNECTION OF THE FLOODPLAIN TO WAR EAGLE CREEK THROUGH RIPARIAN AND STREAM RESTORATION. OVER TWO HUNDRED MILES OF STREAMS WILL BE RECONNECTED THROUGH THE REMOVAL OF INSTREAM STRUCTURES, AND WATER QUALITY WILL IMPROVE THROUGH STABILIZATION OF THE SEGMENT OF CREEK AND STREAMBANKS. THESE IMPROVEMENTS ARE THE MOST EFFECTIVE AND FEASIBLE SUITE OF RECOVERY ACTIONS TO PROMOTE SPECIES SURVIVAL AND RECOVERY AND PROJECT PARTNERS ARE WORKING IN COLLABORATION TO LEVERAGE RESOURCES AND MEET PROJECT GOALS.
