About this award

The Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California received a $681,724 cooperative agreement award from the U.S. Department of the Interior Fish and Wildlife Service Region 8 under the Fish and Wildlife Management Assistance (CFDA 15.608) federal grant program. The five-year award running from July 2022 through July 2027 will support the Tribe's participation in setting priorities and overseeing restoration efforts for the Lake Tahoe watershed related to aquatic invasive species and Lahontan cutthroat trout. Specifically, the funding will facilitate more active Tribal involvement in implementing the Lake Tahoe Restoration Act and managing spread/control of invasive species as well as reintroduction of the native trout. As the Tribe has historically managed the Lake Tahoe area for longer than other organizations named in the Act, this cooperative agreement recognizes the value of Indigenous knowledge in current watershed management and restoration activities.
