Description

The willhite road huzzah creek crossing is an existing low water crossing structure that has a visible concrete slab approximately 7 deep, 127 long, and 13 wide with grouted riprap the existing crossing is an aquatic organism passage barrier causing substantial stream morphology and aquatic habitat degradation and is a safety concern to motorists the existing crossing is essentially acting as a DAM and is a barrier to migrating aquatic species on the upstream side of the structure, aggradation, streambank erosion, and over widening of the channel are causing shallow water, which leads to a rise in stream temperatures during warmer months on the downstream side, the structure is causing degrading, streambank erosion, and over widening the proposed actions include using heavy equipment to remove the existing structure there will be installation of rock along streambanks upstream and downstream of the new crossing and placing planting riparian vegetation along the streambanks and old crossing location the new low water crossing will restore aquatic organism passage and stream morphology reconnecting approximately 12 stream miles in huzzah creek in addition, the proposed activities would mitigate safety concerns and reduce maintenance costs associated with the willhite road low water crossing
