About this award

The Department of Agriculture Nevada will establish a foundation seed program in Nevada through a $100,536 cooperative agreement awarded by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service under the Adaptive Science CFDA 15.670 program. The program will provide a reliable source of genetically appropriate foundation seed for use by producers in Nevada and surrounding states, minimizing transaction costs and supporting the supply of certified seed produced for restoration projects in Nevada. Key metrics such as field acreage, noxious weed presence, seed zone, ecoregion, total seed amounts awarded, total yields, and production methods will be tracked in an inventory database to ensure producers meet certification standards set by the Association of Official Seed Certifying Agencies. This funding will increase the total availability of locally adapted seed in Nevada and support the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's adaptive science framework for strategic fish and wildlife conservation.
