Description

Removal and restoration of the bald mountain pond DAM with follow up native vegetation plantings will restore connectivity for native fish species and reinstate natural flow and sediment regimes to trout creek. This will enhance one of the largest tributaries to paint creek, one of the few remaining coldwater trout streams in southeast michigan and a popular fishing destination. Upstream road stream crossing surveys will extend the project scope to identify potential phase two efforts to continue to restore and enhance this valuable tributary. Incorporation of native vegetation material will stabilize stream banks following DAM removal and broaden stream canopy cover and riparian habitat. Benefits of this effort include increased fish and wildlife habitat, open connectivity for native species to headwater streams and opportunity for volunteers to participate in on-the-ground restoration activities.
