About this award
The Lamoille County Conservation District (LCCD) will receive $112,500 through a Cooperative Agreement awarded by the U.S. Department of the Interior Fish and Wildlife Service Region 5 under the Natural Resource Damage Assessment and Restoration Program (CFDA 15.658). LCCD will design and implement four projects identified in the Lake Eden Watershed Action Plan to address nutrient and sediment loading stresses impacting the lake. This includes creating preliminary designs for additional locations. LCCD will also provide educational signage for two to three publicly visible projects. The agreement period is from March 24, 2022 through February 1, 2026. The Natural Resource Damage Assessment and Restoration Program aims to restore natural resources injured by oil spills or hazardous substance releases for the public benefit.
Description
Lake eden is a pristine lake but has been showing nutrient (i.e. phosphorus) and sediment loading stresses due to development patterns surrounding the lake. The study assessed at what locations these stressors were most impactful by conducting road erosion inventories, stream walks and shoreline assessments. Twenty possible projects were identified and 5 of these that ranked highest were brought to 30% design.through this cooperative agreement with the USFWS, lccd will design and implement 4 out of the 5 projects identified at 30% design and create a preliminary design for locations identified in the plan on back shore drive, eden, VT. In addition to the design and implementation of these projects lccd will provide educational signage on 2 or 3 of the more publicly viewed projects.
