About this award

The Department of the Interior Fish and Wildlife Service Region 8 awarded a $600,000 cooperative agreement to the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation under the Adaptive Science program (CFDA 15.670) to support monitoring of fuel management projects for sensitive species from July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2026. The award will fund monitoring the effects of planned fuels management projects on Pacific fishers in Klamath National Forest and synthesizing previously documented wildlife responses to fuel treatments. Specifically, $600k will support forest managers and regulatory biologists in California with forest planning by clarifying short and long-term tradeoffs among fuels management, wildfire severity, and forest-dependent wildlife persistence. Additionally, Oregon State University will receive a subaward to conduct monitoring of the effects of fuel treatments on Pacific fishers and synthesize prior documented wildlife responses to such projects.
