The Kraft Heinz Foods Company has been awarded a $170,881,459 Cooperative Agreement from the U.S. Department of Energy's Clean Energy Demonstrations (CFDA 81.255) program. The project, titled "The Delicious Decarbonization Through Integrated Electrification and Energy Storage," aims to upgrade, electrify, and decarbonize process heat at 10 of Kraft Heinz's facilities. The project will apply a range of technologies including heat pumps, electric heaters, electric boilers, biogas boilers, solar thermal, solar photovoltaic, and thermal energy storage. By integrating these decarbonization solutions, the project expects to reduce annual emissions by over 300,000 metric tons of CO2, a 99% reduction from 2022 levels. This demonstration project seeks to serve as an example for other U.S. food and beverage companies to reduce process heat emissions and energy costs. The award has an estimated completion date of April 8, 2030 and is expected to create approximately 500 construction jobs across the 10 sites.
