About this award

The Alabama Department of Senior Services (ADSS) received a $435,610 Cooperative Agreement from the Administration on Aging under the National Family Caregiver Support Program (CFDA 93.052), effective September 1, 2025, through August 31, 2027. In partnership with the Alabama Lifespan Respite Resource Network, United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) of Huntsville and Tennessee Valley, and the Alabama Lifespan Respite Coalition, ADSS will implement the National Strategy to Support Family Caregivers by addressing three strategic goals: increasing awareness and outreach to family caregivers, strengthening services and supports for caregivers, and expanding data and research on evidence-based practices. Key deliverables include marketing materials (magazine print and digital banner advertisements), caregiver toolkits, standardized information packets and referral tools, and expanded respite care and mental health support services.

The project targets underserved caregiver populations through enhanced collaboration with state agency partners and Area Agencies on Aging (AAA) and Aging and Disability Resource Centers (ADRCs) across Alabama. Strategic objectives focus on improving caregiver identification and referral processes, expanding respite care hours and mental health counseling access, and leveraging data insights from the Caregiver Wellness Initiative. Expected outcomes include reaching new caregivers, establishing increased partnerships and cross-training opportunities, improving workflow efficiency in caregiver identification and referrals, and reducing stress, anxiety, isolation, and depression among caregivers. The UCP sub-grantee will deliver respite care and supportive services to families of individuals with disabilities as part of the Lifespan Respite program component.
