Description

HIV prevalence is slowly declining, but tanzania has not yet achieved epidemic control and with 110,000 estimated children living with HIV, continues to experience disproportionately high rates of aids related mortality for children 0-14 years with 0.4% prevalence with an estimated 8,300 deaths. Mother-to-child transmission (mtct) has stalled at 11%, resulting in an estimated 10,000 new child infections each year. The MOH has called for the elimination of mother-to-child-transmission of HIV (emtct) to be considered a high priority in the overall fight against HIV. To address these ongoing challenges, the activity has three main objectives: 1. Provide technical assistance to health facilities to increase access to quality comprehensive child-centered health services 2. Strengthen national policies and systems to improve c/alhiv outcomes 3. Sustain quality HIV and TB services to c/alhiv at pediatric centers of excellence
