About this award

Stratio Inc. was awarded a $196,761.60 cooperative agreement from the Department of Commerce National Institute of Standards and Technology under the Science, Technology, Business and/or Education Outreach federal grant program (CFDA 11.620). The award will support Stratio's development of a low-cost, portable spectrometer capable of measuring the short wavelength infrared spectral range to advance material measurement capabilities. Activities during the October 1, 2022 to March 31, 2023 period of performance will optimize optical components to create a multi-component prism, conduct experiments to determine optimal specifications, and develop complementary artificial intelligence models for plastic sorting applications. Stratio aims to produce its sensor at a cost 100 times lower than traditional SWIR sensors and anticipates global business opportunities in precision agriculture, beauty technology, medical devices, and sorting/recycling upon completion of this cooperative agreement.

Description

Activities
Phase i activities will include the following:1. Optimize the optical components to create a multi-component prism.2. Conduct experiments to determine the optimal components and angle sharpness to achieve a swir prism with sufficient dispersive power.3. Develop complementary AI models for application for use in plastic sorting in combination with its solution.
Expected outcomes
Stratio, INC. Plans to produce its sensor at a cost 100X lower than traditional swir sensors. Stratio anticipates global business opportunities arising from application areas, such as precision agriculture, beauty tech, medical devices, and sorting/recycling.
Intended beneficiaries
Stratio's technology is intended to benefit emerging new markets such as precision agriculture, night vision, smart mirrors, and robotic surgery.
Subrecipient activities
The recipient does not intend to subaward funds.
