Description

Activities
The participants will establish a steering committee to guide roadmap development activities, convene participants across the value chain, collect input, disseminate the roadmap findings and encourage solutions to the technical gaps and critical needs identified. The roadmapping process will include a national conference, a series of expert focus group exercises, surveys, interviews, and solicitation of technology development ideas and analysis of potential solutions.
Expected outcomes
The roadmap produced will facilitate alignment among u.s stakeholders across the innovation ecosystem for large structure fabrication to create a common vision of the priorities and solutions needed to accelerate implementation of these technologies. The resulting consortium funded through this project will nucleate the leading U.S. Materials, additive manufacturing, joining, forming, cold spray, automation and robotics experts to establish the infrastructure to increase global competitiveness in large structure production capabilities and advance workforce readiness.
Intended beneficiaries
State and local governments will benefit from new technology that will make production of large structures and systems (roads, bridges, ships, etc.) better, faster, and cheaper. US manufacturing will benefit from the identification of next generation manufacturing, fabrication, and inspection processes, and from advanced training programs that will bring in skilled workers to support the industry. These cross-cutting technologies will accelerate production of large structures and systems, ensure first-time quality across a wide range of applications, and position U.S. Industries as world leaders in clean transportation infrastructure, clean water infrastructure, and clean power infrastructure.
Subrecipient activities
The recipient plans to subaward funds to support enlisting participation from a wide range of stakeholders in focus groups and interviews, interpreting the collected data, disseminating the roadmap results, and encouraging the development of solutions.
