The Department of Agriculture Agricultural Marketing Service awarded Banco De Alimentos Puerto Rico, Inc. a $125,000 cooperative agreement on March 1, 2026 under the Farmers Market and Local Food Promotion Program (CFDA 10.175) to support e-commerce and online marketing capabilities for farmers, ranchers, and seafood harvesters selling locally-produced meat and fish. The award addresses gaps in technological knowledge and shipping capacity that have hindered producers' adaptation to digital sales channels. Performance runs through February 29, 2028 and takes place in Puerto Rico. Banco De Alimentos Puerto Rico is a nonprofit community development corporation focused on addressing food insecurity and nutrition challenges across nine communities in Puerto Rico; the organization operates in-person redemption hubs, online ordering platforms, and provides nutrition education and agricultural training. The Farmers Market and Local Food Promotion Program funds projects that develop and expand direct producer-to-consumer markets and local and regional food business enterprises to increase access to locally and regionally produced agricultural products across eligible U.S. territories and states.
