The Department of Agriculture Agricultural Marketing Service Dairy Program awarded the University of Tennessee a $3.454 million cooperative agreement on January 31, 2026, under the Dairy Business Innovation Initiatives program (CFDA 10.176). The award funds regional food system partnerships through the UT Agriculture Extensions Service, with performance in Tennessee extending through January 30, 2029.
The Dairy Business Innovation Initiatives program supports dairy businesses in development, production, marketing, and distribution by connecting the Agricultural Marketing Service with eligible entities that provide direct technical assistance and grants. Initiatives may serve specific product niches such as specialty cheese or dairy products from particular animal types—cow, sheep, or goat milk. Recipients consult with the National Dairy Promotion and Research Board and AMS and report program outcomes and opportunities to further increase dairy innovation.
The cooperative agreement is issued for up to three years, with eligibility for a one-year extension to complete approved project activities subject to AMS approval. Recipients must retain all financial and programmatic records for three years after AMS receives the final Federal Financial Report or until final resolution of any audit findings or litigation claims.
