About this award

The University of Maryland, College Park received a $1.75M Cooperative Agreement from the Department of Agriculture's National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) under the Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SARE) program (CFDA 10.215), effective September 30, 2025 through September 29, 2030. Through its National Reporting, Coordinating, and Communications Office (NRCCO), the institution will develop and execute integrated communications and outreach efforts to advance SARE's mission of promoting sustainable agriculture, environmental stewardship, and enhanced quality of life for U.S. farms and agricultural communities.

The awardee will deliver comprehensive products and services including development and production of educational materials (books, bulletins, videos, and web-based resources) on sustainable agricultural practices; in-house development, maintenance, and support of shared information technology platforms; coordination and reporting across SARE's four regional program teams; and cross-regional impact tracking of SARE-funded grant programs. The NRCCO will serve U.S. farmers, ranchers, and agricultural audiences directly by producing accessible technical resources and indirectly by providing communication infrastructure and national information-sharing capabilities that amplify SARE's capacity to disseminate research findings, funded project outcomes, and program information to agricultural stakeholders nationwide.

Description

Sustainable agriculture seeks to provide more profitable farm income, promote environmental stewardship, and enhance quality of life for U.S. Farms, families, and communities.sare's nrcco goal is to develop and execute integrated, compelling and creative communications and outreach efforts to help achieve the sare program's mission. The goal will be achieved through a variety of activities including the development and production of books, bulletins, videos, and web communications. Its substantial reporting and coordination responsibilities also include in-house development, maintenance, and support of shared information technology (IT) platforms, collaboration with various regional program teams, and cross-regional impact tracking of sare's grant programs. The nrcco's service to U.S. Farmers, ranchers, and agricultural communities is mainly accomplished through our work with sares regional program coordinators, as we direct national program efforts and provide cross-regional information sharing opportunities. We serve U.S. Farmers and ranchers directly by producing technical resources about agricultural topics that are easy to find, understand, and act upon. The nrcco's reporting and coordination activities also greatly increase sares communication infrastructure and capacity to share information about agricultural practices, sare funded projects, and programs to national agricultural audiences.
