Description
Awards issued prior to january 20, 2025, were funded under previous administrations and may not reflect the priorities and policies of the current administration.** the city of rich hill is proposing to start and manage a food waste pick up service and build community partnerships to implement environmentally friendly, sustainable food waste management strategies. The food waste pickup service will be available to residents and businesses and include yard debris. The collected waste will be generated into high quality compost used to beautify the city and to serve local agricultural producers. The city of rich hill along with its partners plan to hold 24 outreach educational/informational events to educate the public on the benefits of composting and promotion of food and waste reduction. The collected food waste will be composted and sold back to residents and businesses at a reduced rate. The participating residents will also receive a discount (through an in-kind donation) off their trash service. Project goals include 1) educate, motivate others and increase food and waste strategies through awareness and educational events at a business and individual level; 2) initiate and manage a municipal composting site and pickup services within the city and surrounding rural area; and 3) improve waste remediation strategies and build an environmentally friendly, sustainable community. This project will result in a comprehensive response to support better waste strategies, increase overall food waste and composting education, and divert current wasted food in local businesses and individuals into the composting and food donation system, thereby meeting program, state, and local priorities and needs.
