Description
The virginia victims fund, officially criminal injuries compensation fund is currently using a database developed in 2010 to process an average of 4800 new applications and $7.1MILLION in payments each year along with the collection of restitution payments, tax set offs, and repayments to crime victims for unclaimed restitution totaling over $372,000 each year. The antiquated database is not web-based nor does IT have the capacity to interface with other systems or compatible with technology platforms. This system causes numerous delays, inefficiencies, and workarounds for staff. Crime victims and providers are subject to misinformation and are frequently passed from one staff to another in order to have simple requests answered. Further, the website is not user friendly or victim centered. The fund is proposing a project to "implement statewide technology" that strengthens the current system by updating its website and combining an online platform, web-based system with the capacity to interface in an effort to increase victims' access to services, increase efficiency in the provision of services and improve the quality of service offered to victims of crime in the commonwealth of virginia.
